Story Thus Far
We have had two solid months, where we steadily read two books. In the last month, we read ‘The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress’ by Robert Heinlein, a science fiction book where the Moon has been colonized by people from Earth, and tired of living under captivity, they are revolting against the people from Earth. We then had a discussion with TG Shenoy, one of India’s foremost SFF Critics, on what to make of the book.
In the first month, we had a conversation with Dr. Rohit De, whose book ‘A People’s Constitution’ we read.
Plans for March
In our third month, we are reading about prison systems in India.
For that, we have two books. The first book is Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer (which we plan on finishing in March). It is about what goes on in India’s most famous prison (it is also Asia’s largest).
The second one is Behind Bars: Prison Tales of India’s Most Famous. It’s about how the super-rich and powerful spend their time behind bars. This we’ll read in the first 2 weeks of April.
Both are written by Sunetra Choudhury, a long-time journalist who has reported on crime extensively.
We’ll have the next meeting on Wednesday (24th), at 9 PM. Read the first 5 chapters of Black Warrant till then!
If you wish to join the Book Club fill the form here, we’ll contact you soon.
